Eco 3+ transformers with amorphous core
As of 1 July 2021, all transformer manufacturers will have to strictly comply with the production of transformers classified with the term Tier 2, with the exception of specific applications, as laid down in Regulation no. 548/2014 with Phase 2. However, for over 10 years, GBE has been offering cast-resin and oil transformers with efficiency well above the Eco directive, thanks to the use of cores with amorphous material. On other occasions, we have already discussed and described the characteristics and peculiarities of this product, comparing it to the conventional CRGO material which, even if laser-worked, cannot achieve a fraction of the performance of the amorphous material.
Energy saving is an increasingly strategic objective for some operators and for countries with greater sensitivity to CO2 emissions. What drives in this direction is not only the need to reduce operating costs or to comply with particular regulations, but above all, the widespread environmental sensitivity that allows “green” companies to enjoy a significant competitive advantage in terms of image.
GBE believes in amorphous transformer technology, aware that this solution will be increasingly successful in the future: no-load losses for cast-resin transformers are in fact up to three times lower than those of an Eco Design transformer even according to Phase 2. The initial cost of buying a cast-resin or oil-immersed amorphous transformer is still quite significant, but allows considerable savings even after only a few years. Therefore, it is not correct to consider the purchase of an amorphous transformer as a greater cost but, rather, as a sound investment.
