An important supply for GBE to a state-of-the-art plant in the UK

Its ability to guarantee high-quality standards year after year allows GBE to continue to build new partnerships with leading companies in energy distribution and production. In 2020, GBE partnered with one of the UK’s leading suppliers of renewable energy, specialising in building waste-to-energy plants that meet environmental and emissions standards, including those designed to fit into city centres. The collaborative effort has resulted in the construction of a plant located in an industrial zone in the heart of Scotland, which is designed to power a large chemical company, an adjacent industrial estate and the national grid.

The supply includes a number of cast-resin transformers and a 31.5 MVA oil-filled power transformer with a primary and secondary voltage of 11 kV and impedance Zcc = 25%, manufactured using a unique design to fully meet the technical specifications of the project. The ±8×1.66% regulation tapping required the use of three single-phase tap-changers with a current carrying capacity of 2,000 A. The windings were produced with parallel-transposed cables, paying particular attention to the execution of the coil for coarse tap selector.

The new cogeneration plant has been designed to replace a gas-fired power plant that has reached the end of its operational life. The technology involved is considered by many engineers and researchers to be the most environmentally sustainable solution for the management of residual urban waste. Each year, it will prevent 216,000 tonnes of household and commercial waste from entering landfills, and convert the waste into 79 GWh of green electricity and 81 GWh of heat in the form of steam. Whatever changes are taking place, there will inevitably be a component of residual waste that needs to be disposed of safely and cleanly, without the need for landfills or shipment abroad.
